@BShmit explores the "B" word with us!
"Without question, it is way worse hearing it from a man. I feel like for women, in a way, we've kind of reclaimed it as our own word. When it's coming out of a man's mouth, 99% of the time it's extremely demeaning and can also be used frequently to describe an assertive, strong woman."
How does hearing the “B” word make you feel?
I think it totally depends on how it's being used. The "B" word is probably one of the most versatile swear words I've heard - it can be both endearing and insulting. So it goes without saying that hearing the B word definitely brings up mixed feelings. It's also weird because someone can literally say "Hey bitch!" with different inflections in their voice and have it mean two totally different things - for instance, if one of my girl friends said that I wouldn't take offense at all and have no hard feelings whatsoever. However, if some random person on the street shouted it at me I'd be furious.
Where do you hear the “B” word used the most?
For me personally, I hear it the most from my friends in an affectionate way - so mostly it brings up feelings of silliness/friendliness. Typically the people I surround myself with don't use the B word in a demeaning way, which I'm thankful for. It is funny though - I think the person I hear use the B word the most is my mom, who genuinely believes that calling someone the B word is a compliment.
Do you use the “B” word? If so in which context?
I'd have to say I use it both ways, I try not to use it in a demeaning way but I do definitely slip up on that when I'm heated (lol). Although I think most of the time I use it I'm pretty much just joking.
How have you been affected by the words usage?
I think it affected me the most in elementary school when people didn't really use it in a nice way. People would call me the B Word, and yeah it hurt, but for the most part I've always had thick skin and been able to shrug off the insults. I do also think it's kind of an indication of how close I am with a friend though! Like if I get to the point with someone where they can call me out when I'm being the B word then I know they're my close friend - haha.
